Equivalent Expressions and the Distributive Property

Imagine having the ability to show your students the distributive property in action. Equivalent Expressions and the Distributive Property allows your students to do just that. Students will drag equal shipments off of a truck and distribute them to different retailers to represent what is happening when they use the distributive property.

As the activity progresses they will use this understanding to recognize and create equivalent expressions using numbers and variables. They will multiply a factor by values inside  parentheses in some expressions as well as divide out a common factor in others as they attempt to find equivalent expressions using the distributive property.
